Question by : Need help introducing pug puppy to older terrier?
I have just gotten a 10 month old pug puppy, I’m trying to introduce him to a 10 year old fox terrier. The puppy doesn’t even make a sound, but the terrier barks and barks. Does anyone have any tips to help these guys get along better. Additional Info: The puppy came home 3 days ago, and the terrier was NEVER trained.

First I would suggest to introduce them in neutral territory…like a dog park. Let them get use to each other in this type of environment first and when they do well there you could move it to a smaller area but still neutral like a fenced in area (someone Else’s back yard, not the terriers) with no other dogs present. Then try it at home…Most times I find if you let the dogs work it out themselves it works better…you have to be alert but try to ignore them. As long as they are not hurting each other let them do their thing, sniff, growl, snap. I find if you don’t make a big deal about it and don’t get in the middle, the Alpha (your older terrier) will let the puppy know who’s boss in it’s own way and be done with it. If there is a real danger to the pup well then definitely get in the middle. I would suggest by pinning the terrier by the scruff of her neck to the ground with a strong NO and holding her there while the puppy sniffs and what not until the terrier submits….
